My mom hated it. Thomas does seem to have a strange, self-indulged life. But there are some moments of beautiful writing and true profundity. Thomas's husband is suddenly hit by a car and never fully recovers. Her life changes in an instant. But the book is about the after--how they renegotiate love and normal.

EXCELLENT. Memoir of a woman whose husband has an accident with TBI. She didn't start writing until age 47. Excellent coverage of loss - of all kinds.

I read this book in a couple of hours, attracted by the title. I love books where dogs are the main characters. In this case the dogs were in the supporting roles, hence the 3 stars. I liked the book ok, I found myself rushing through the book to finish, because I was a bit disappointed. The primary story in this book was author's husband, and the accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. An injury from which he never quite recovered, and not able to live a "normal" life. I found the story to be disjointed and confusing.

I loved cozying up to read this beautifully written book- it read like poetry to me, and I often went back to re-read passages.
I would definitely read this one again.

. I loved this moving, sad memoir. It’s a quick and satisfying read. Thomas writes of the horrifying accident that her husband endured and left him terrifyingly brain-damaged in a clear, concise manner. There were many beautiful passages that were incredibly moving.
