"If Jesus conquered death, he can open the door of eternal life for me, too."

disclaimer: i will not be rating this book, as i have not rated any other religious books, because i don't feel comfortable rating the range of someone else's beliefs based on my own views of the world and the Word itself.
that being said, that was, woah, an excellent read. it is the report of an atheist journalist that seeks out answers about Jesus through the point of view of many experts in the subject. before reading the book, i read some of the reviews, and i notice a pattern: people claim the author was biased. now, in my opinion, there is a way to describe that "biased" thought. i particularly believe the fundament to becoming a believer is wanting, even if only a little bit, to believe. if the author had searched those people without a single thought in his mind, a single voice in his heart that was already whispering "let's look for Jesus, shall we?", i don't honestly believe the result would have been the same. in my opinion, though, that doesn't make his case any less believable. it might make it even more. as someone that's been religious my entire life, wanting to believe has only brought me more and more i want to learn about God, never satisfied or "full enough". finally, i'd like to go back to this one quote that really stood out to me:

"It's because this Jesus — the historical Jesus — is also the living Lord. That's why. It's because he's still around, while the others are long gone."

and say that anyone that's interested in reading an analysis on Jesus or anything related to this book might find this an actually great read. i'd recommend it, for sure.

It's difficult for me to rate this book, mainly because I'm unsure who it's intended for. In terms of the accuracy of the facts presented, the book holds up well. However, just because something is true doesn’t mean the research was conducted thoroughly or comprehensively. The Case for Christ doesn’t offer any arguments that you couldn’t find in a typical “Christian vs. Atheist” debate on YouTube. If this book is meant for people beginning their faith journey, I’d sooner recommend they watch a debate video that lasts 1.5 to 2 hours instead of reading this book, as they would learn roughly the same things.

If the book is aimed at believers, I honestly don't know. I think most Christians who take their faith seriously are already aware of this information. The titular investigation conducted by the author revolves around asking the simplest and most obvious questions about Christ, which can also be answered just as thoroughly by Googling the topic. The author doesn't really challenge anything and doesn't interview people with differing beliefs from those he converses with. He doesn't serve as a convincing devil's advocate (pun totally intended) either. Thus, it’s not truly an investigation and has little to do with interrogating witnesses in a court; it’s simply a series of interviews with world-class experts in biblical studies, archaeology, medicine, and theology, to whom he asks rather simplistic questions.

In my opinion, The Case for Christ made sense in an era of limited internet access, but today it doesn’t hold the same relevance. It doesn't present falsehoods or inaccuracies, but it also fails to delve deeply enough into the subject to be worthy of attention. Therefore, I rate it three stars.

Go read the Bible instead.

Hahahahahahahahahaha.
Strobel Claims to be a detective, but fails miserably at assessing the question of Jesus Christ from any perspective other than a born again evangelical.
Somehow not the worst apologetics work ever produced by the evangelical book industry because at least it tries to present its argument in a way Christians would accept and iirc doesn't go too far into "this group is damned to hell" type rants

This book was well written and easy to read- like the transcript to a compelling documentary it lays out common arguments against Christianity and the facts that discredit those arguments succinctly.

Definitely a good one to add to your seekers bookshelf or as a resource for anyone looking at a crash course on Christian apologetics.

3.8 stars
For the most part a dry read, but informative. It lays out strong evidence for the life and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The book can basically be summed up by this; most of history that is widely considered to be fact, is believed with less evidence to support it than there is evidence to support the claims of the Bible.
