Great read aloud for kids from 6ish-100. Lots of hilarious hijinks. A timeless classic.

I read this to all of my kids and really enjoyed it. I thought it was fun and engaging. It was a pretty quick read and it had some great pictures. This book was an excellent read aloud.

Nostalgic read. Took me right back to my stacks of library books in second grade. Funny, lighthearted, and nothing deep to think about. Just a funny book great for a simple kids read.

This book has been suggest on many list of what books to read to your son, so I indulged. I didn't care for it. I liked the chapter on the donuts, but that's about it. I found it old-fashioned without being endearing. I have the next book in the series but I think I'll pass.

I found this story inside of a Treasury of Children's Literature. I was somewhat familiar with McCloskey, remembering [b:Blueberries for Sal|133526|Blueberries for Sal|Robert McCloskey|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1363586056l/133526._SX50_.jpg|1416904] and [b:Make Way for Ducklings|29291|Make Way for Ducklings|Robert McCloskey|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1362580777l/29291._SX50_.jpg|103828]. I appreciate all of the wholesomeness of childhood and community in yesteryear but I know that wasn't everyone's experience.

While I appreciated the comical Mayberry-eque town of Centerville, the book lost much of its luster when it characterized the the town's major source of money, its cough syrup, because the Indians took to abusing it. That, and Homer and his friends dressing up as Indians. While racism still exists in America today, I hope that readers can look back on this literature and acknowledge that better literature is available for children and to see it out.
