As a cat owner and cat lover, I felt this book to my core. I've cried my eyes out and smiled at the same time. The story of Satoru and his cat Nana is a love story that pet owners and especially cat lovers will fully understand and relate to.

OMG, so much to love. I was listening to this before bed , but I knew that it was going to have a sad ending, so I wisely listened to the end during the day. I wept from chapter 3.5 on.
Het begin kostte wat moeite, maar daarna gaat het vloeien. Mooi verhaal en met plezier gelezen

I want to begin this review by saying fuck you, Hiro Arikawa.
Anyway.
What a wonderful book. I went into this expecting nothing much but came out of it feeling like I'd actually changed from reading it. It has such an interesting structure and amazing characterisation surrounding its rather simple premise. Each chapter, you learn more about Satoru's life and his relationship with Nana. Going into it, I was most interested regarding reading from a cat's perspective and while I loved those parts, I actually found the best parts to be when we learnt more about Satoru's youth, where we also get deeper insight into the characters he goes to meet to give Nana away through their shared experiences – it's just structured so nicely and I never felt like I was reading something that wasn't important. Satoru is also just such a loveable character, and I really felt like with each visit to a particular character, he left them for the better. The crowning jewel is of course Satoru's relationship with Nana, it's just so nice to read about. The entire novel, you just have a warm feeling in your stomach. That is of course until you get to THAT point. Again, fuck you Hiro Arikawa.
Absolutely has become among my favourite novels ever and I will be rereading it again at some point.
