This one came recommended by my friend Hali as Japan prep. I think you probably need to be an animal person to fully enjoy it. That being said, I'm more of a dog person who still appreciates cats, and I thought this book was adorable. The narrator is the cat Nana. I've never had my own cat, but Nana's voice feels accurate to what I know of cats - opinionated, at times indignant, not overly prone to pleasing others, but also curious and protective of his human. Most of the structure of this novel is a journey as Nana's human visits people from throughout his life, and his journey comes to a conclusive close at the end of the novel. I don't think this novel breaks any new ground but it does feel true. I'd recommend for anyone who has ever loved a pet. 4/5
