A lovely book by a Minnesota author showing the joys of nature, even in a MN winter. It is also a sweet reminder that not all grandmas are your typical storybook type. And that there is great joy in spending time in nature with the ones you love, and that we can pass that love and knowledge down through the generations. This girl wants to grow up to be just like her grandma.

Love it! Of course, I dream of somehow becoming that outdoorsy type of grandmother with the long gray braids and hiking boots who is most at home in nature. I always wanted to be a granola girl but just never managed it somehow. :) The (woodblock?) illustrations are perfect for this story.

Can we talk about the art work for a second? Because that is some beautiful illustrations. Its just so gorgeous. Claudia McGehee couldn't have done this story any more justice than she has with her beautiful illustrations complimenting what is as very sweet and beautiful story about loving the outdoors and loving the one who shares it with you.
Highly recommend this book. Especially for the grandmas that want to share their love of the outdoors with their grandkids.
