Beautifully written with full and fascinating characters, but doesn't feel like a love story (despite all the yearning and marriage politics).
Fanny is sometimes pitiable and childish, but is hard not to like for her depth and warmth despite how poorly she's treated.
Edmund is a very uninspiring love interest whose only redeeming feature seems to be that he's the only one that doesn't bully Fanny.
I'd much rather have seen character growth for Henry instead of the slightly Freudian ending we're left with. But still an intriguing and engaging book nonetheless.

RIP Fanny Price, you would have loved Targaryens.

Bit dull. Definitely not Jane Austen’s best work. Was like a Austen era Love Island series

Somewhere between 3.5 to 4 stars, was very enjoyable. However this is also my first proper full Jane Austen so definitely need to check out her other works. Pacing was the main issue it was draggy in some parts and then zoomed by towards the end. All the dama was fun!

I moved my rating down for two reasons:
1. Fanny, as depicted, has no character other than that derived from Edmund’s teachings and what she would think he would really want.
2. The plot moves along without the “heroine’s” great action- life seems to happen to Fanny, not be driven by her.
3. The first book seemed to drag a lot and then picked up for a while but the humor of Austen was hard to find.
