This is the next logical step from THREE FINGERS, and follows a down on his luck reporter as he interviews an Elvis impersonator who may or may not be "The King." There 's a lot going on here, and the whole book functions as an interesting examination of faith and celebrity. It's much more effective than THREE FINGERS, Koslowski's earlier graphic novel, because it's much more of a character study. As a graphic novel, the words and pictures work together nicely, and create an effect not unlike a independent documentary film.
Well done!

I read this years ago and thought it was a more efficient essay on faith than Life of Pi. Reread this weekend. and now I'm thinking it also has elements from The Last Temptation of Christ.
Yes, its a book about Elvis, about fandom, about the importance of fandom and all that trekker ethos but it really is about belief and why it matters. There's also a veery affecting subplot about a mother accepting what it means when your child grows up thats really moving.
Worth a read!

Astute illustrations and intriguing writing, but this gn as a whole failed to engage me.

An interesting comic about the appearance of a man calling himself the King, nearly 30 years after Elvis' death. He sings like Elvis and looks a bit like Elvis, but who is he?
I enjoyed the gradual unveiling of the story as reporter Paul Erfurt delves into the stories of the "true believers" surrounding the King, and it's an interesting commentary about story and belief and power. I wasn't thrilled with the illustration style, but it was okay.

I really dug the art work in this one, but the story wasn't too original. And the big climax/reveal at the end was kinda lame -- hello One Hour Photo!
