I have mixed feelings about this book, when I originally finished reading it I felt devastated that it was over, but after some more thinking, I realized that there were a few things I didn’t quite enjoy.

➸ There is a bit of smut in the book, which is not a bad thing at all. They’re well written and entertaining but it almost feels as though the characters never really have a heartfelt vulnerable moment without them ending up entangled.
I mean they LITERALLY have sex while her father is recovering from a heart attack a few rooms away.
It’s not bad I guess depending on the person that you are, I just find it to be unnecessary at times and wish more time was spent building a more heartfelt and meaningful connection.

➸ This book didn’t really feel like a slow burn, it goes by pretty quickly and the two main characters feel attraction for one another what feels like almost instantly. Some may argue that there is a time skip in the book which there is, but because we don’t see them developed during that time we don’t see them really yearn for one another. It basically just goes from mild dislike to intense desire and want.

I think the book had nice scenes and concepts, it definitely despite everything still made me realize that I do like the princess-bodyguard trope but I don’t really like how their relationship as a whole played out. Despite that I can still appreciate the well written scenes and how the story played out. There are also moments where I do like Rhys character and find myself wanting some of his characteristics in a future partner. I overall really did enjoy his character when they weren’t in the middle of “something” but he also does have a few lines of off putting dialogue but it can VERY easily be overlooked so if you’re interested don’t let that little piece of information detour you. The audio book is also very well narrated and I suggest that anyone that does want to read this book maybe look into that to see how you feel about it before possibly committing to a purchase.

Overall it wasn’t for me but I did enjoy the read at the time. Everyone likes different things but if you’re into slow burn and building up that tension and banter this book probably won’t be for you as it does not last very long and definitely subsides once the characters are admittedly in love with one another. But if you do enjoy that quick love story that goes from forbidden to controversial to HEA then I do suggest this book to you.

There are definitely some interesting twist and turns in this book but the smut scenes thrown in there that are almost used to build their relationship in a way just wasn’t for me, hence my 3 star reading. I hope this review helped you and wish you the best on your reading journey! Happy reading.
