I keep reading craft books and interviews by Patchett because her process is very similar to mine and that soothes me. Wish she'd mention that her mother is a novelist too. That was critical in her development and it never gets a mention. Not even when Patchett talks about struggling to find her medium (poetry versus short stories versus novels).
Her advice to write a novel chronologically, even if it contains multiple flashbacks or flashforwards, is interesting. I'll try to keep it in mind.

Concise advice
Concise advice. Ann tells about how she got her start a reiterates what we all know. If you want to be a writer put your butt in the chair.

This is the first Ann Patchett I've read, outside of the occasional magazine article. I thought this memoir was absolutely terrific, and well-suited to the Kindle single format.

Books about writing inspire me to sit down and write myself. This one is no different from an author who writes beautifully and tells wonderful stories.

Delightful, quick, and filled with wisdom. These are meant to be read in a few hours, but I savored this over about a week and I'm glad I did.
