"Cycles exist because they are excruciating to break. It takes an astronomical amount of pain and courage to disrupt a familiar pattern."

My first CoHo book and it was a DOOZY, but I loved it! My family has a history of domestic violence survival and this book felt like a celebration to other survivors and their loved ones. The amount of strength Lily and others like her must find within themselves is awe-inspiring.

Hoover wrote a raw, grounded and realistic portrayal of an all-too-common situation. Watching Lily’s personal growth, especially when she is in conflict with herself, and wracking with the morally grey areas life forces us to face, are two elements which make this story uniquely captivating. This book is guaranteed to stay with you. This book was emotional, empowering, devastating, and left me conflicted at times. But all of these things are what make life beautiful. Without the tough times, the great ones are a little less shiny. I can't wait for the movie adaptation of this book!

When I tell you, this book grabbed hold of me and didn’t let go, I MEAN it! This is not some lovey-dovey romance book where they run off into the sunset together and live happily ever after. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pick it up! Instead, this is a grounded, authentic story which brings new meaning to the phrase “every rose has its thorns.”

"15 seconds. That's all it takes to completely change everything about a person. 15 seconds that we'll never get back."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“It Ends With Us” by Colleen Hoover is definitely overhyped, but I did enjoy reading it. I get the fan base, but this book is messy and triggering. I never liked Ryle at all and felt so frustrated with Lily’s obliviousness to his “charms” in the beginning. He was creepy and honestly it was difficult to see how she could even love him. I could see the reasoning for this technique to help further the plot though.

I did enjoy Atlas’s character and could appreciate the young romance between him and Lily via her journal. I also understand why fans petitioned for the sequel.

I suppose I wished I knew more going in, since this book is not a romance. It’s about domestic violence and child abuse/neglect. If it were not for the author’s very vulnerable afterward, I’d probably give it a lower rating. She clearly explains herself, her pov and connection to violence in her own family. That was heartbreaking itself. It helped set the tone for the novel and explain why there was so much more compassion for people who make bad choices. I suppose that would help readers understand the victims more, and I did appreciate that approach. I still had a hard time feeling anything, but loathing for Ryle. It’s definitely easier to see issues when you’re looking on the inside from an outside perspective. Just be aware of the triggers and drama. It could’ve been worse I’m sure, but it was still upsetting to read.

Definitely not the kind of book you should pick up without reading the jacket first, like I made the mistake of doing.

A heavy and infuriating and brutally honest and uplifting and confusing book tbh. One of those books where's there's no dichotomy of right and wrong (with some obvi exceptions). Everyone who knows someone who has experienced an abusive relationship in any way should read this.

I don't really know how I feel? At time reading this I felt so angry because of the graphic content that was written about and at other times I found myself smiling because I'm so connected with the characters. It's a hard one because I've heard mixed reviews about this book and yes I do agree there should be tws. However considering how connected I felt with the characters I have to give credit to Colleen Hoover for that. I was so engrossed from start to end and I am so thankful this story ended how I wanted it to with
Lily leaving her abusive marriage to protect her daughter
.

I literally sobbed at the
epilogue with Atlas and I am now very much tempted to buy 'It Starts With Us' to follow Atlas' and Lily's story and see how it ends
.

Overall I would recommend reading this however please be cautious and check the content warnings before reading.
