Its NOT a romance book. One takeaway is don't be a red flag like Lily, and Atlas is actually a creep(wth you romanticising about bruv!?), Ryle wasn't written well to begin with cause man kept fluctuating between a red and green flag imo.

This is a book that does show one needs to not only leave an abusive relationship ASAP but also f ing heal pls before getting into one, you can't just think its alright and okay perfectly to abandon your husband and marraige literally the one you so very happily consented for, for an old school crush! Like grow up woman!

I could barely get through this book (I read it for a book club) until the last quarter or so when the plot began to pick up. The characters are not at all likeable and the book frames some really dark topics in a strange light. I hated both of the love interests.

I will admit that I put this on my list because I have heard sooo much about it. It seems to be all that anyone could talk about.

However, it really was not for me and I did not finish it. I think I realised very quickly that it was not a book that I was going to struggle with when Ryle told Lily he wants to fuck her after just meeting her: fuck-boy characters are ones that I just do not get along with. Now, saying this I do not mind smut and I don't mind a character being out there, but instantly I was questioning the intent of the book, and then when Ryle was described as "a person who does bad things", I knew there was going to be things that I did not like.

I really do think that this book should come with trigger warnings as some of the things do come slightly out of the blue, and some of the things he does is so relevant to some abusive relationships today that it can it range from subtle triggering to major triggers. I agree with book being written to highlight issues and being a medium for people to educate themselves on trauma etc but this is not a book that I feel does that, and I believe that it just uses trauma in a unproductive way.

if you are going to read this book, I really do suggest having a good read at the triggers before just in case!

I'm coming back to review this book after a couple days because I haven't been able to stop thinking about how bad it was. I think I might change my rating to 1 star as I originally gave it 2 stars. My biggest issues with it is the fact its listed under the romance category. Not one part of it was romantic. I think the intention was to give an insight on the reality of abusive relationships and domestic abuse behind closed doors, but I still see so many people online romanticising Lily and Atlas - a relationship between a 15 and 18 year old. Both of the relationships were just terrible. I didn't see the point of there being an age gap because the plot could have worked out the same without a minor/adult relationship. I found the main characters to be poorly developed, unlikeable and annoying. The writing was nothing special at all. I got through the majority of the novel by just reading the dialogue because I just wanted to get it over with as soon as possible. I was encouraged to read because of the hype on tiktok and booktube and have still been seeing videos after I finished the book of people giving it 5 stars. I cannot see in the slightest how this could be given nearly that many.
