This book is a very realistic portrayal of domestic violence and the reasons so many people stay with their abuser.

Vowed to read 1 CoHo book in ifs entirety to affirm the suspicion that it wasn't for me. Worst thing I've ever read. Predictable and problematic with an air of trying desperately to "educate" readers. Also the mc is a florist who is called lily bloom.... eye roll. Mentioning the ridiculousness of that name in the book doesn't make it less ridiculous that its in the book. Nah. Nope. Not for me. Do not get the hype at all.

This was my introduction to Coleen Hoover and honestly I don’t know why she gets so much shit - I absolutely loved this.
If I had to give an elevator pitch - I would say it was the story of a complicated relationship between the main character (a young woman with past trauma) and a neurosurgeon with emotional issues ; alongside uncovering the complicated story of the main character’s first love with a homeless boy
At the start, it definitely feels in points like ‘The Neurosurgeon Who Loved Me’ style romance/erotica. But I really feel as though this falls into a drama/romance/thriller category.
I think one of the things I don’t love about straight romance/dramas is that they can be quite predictable, unrealistic and cheesy. Although there are small elements of that in here (especially the cheesiness), I actually think it’s very eye-opening and realistic.
A common theme throughout is domestic violence and I personally feel like it does a great job at showing all the good, the bad and the ugly, fully encompassing the grey areas instead of seeing it in black and white.
There were moments of this book I felt elated and good about life, and others quite the opposite.
Would I recommend it? Yes - i don’t think it or Coleen deserve all the shit it book gets (and this is coming from someone going into it assuming I wasn’t going to enjoy it).

the way that lily acts towards ryle when he claims he would change made me extremely mad, like leave him permanently!! but overall it was a rollercoaster of emotions and made me EXTREMELY tense during some parts and those are the kind of books that i LOVE. it displays acts of physical abuse from spouses/partners and also tells you options on what to do. i love how this book displays what some women/men have to go through. according to me overall, i give this book a perfect 5 according to the storyline and pace! (took me 3 nights to read it whole because of how the book had me CLINGING) but according to my emotions, a 4.75 because of how often i cried (not joking.)

THIS BOOK IS CAMP!!! 1🌸

I feel bad for hating/ridiculing this book b/c the content is heavy and the Note from the author is genuinely moving…but:
  • the protagonist is a florist
  • the onesie party
  • THE ELLEN DEGENERES DIARIES 😭

Would it kill Colleen Hoover to give a character a normal name?
  • lily blooming bloom
  • Ryle Kincaid
  • Atlas corrigan
  • Dory!?

Okay. Since we’re on the subject… the first guy I ever had sex with was homeless.

Ellen, I am confident that the next sentence I am about to write has never been written or spoken aloud before.
When he was wiping that cow shit on me, it was quite possibly the most turned-on I have ever been.

Now go get my baby and take her away from here so I can have some sex with my filthy rich husband.

TLDR: my Colleen Hoover curiosity ends with this book.
