I was really excited about the romance in the book and the rest of the plot but I just felt like it wasn’t for me once I got into reading it.

Wasn’t my favorite Katie McGarry but it definitely had me hooked! Loved Hendrix and Elle’s internal issues were relatable though her total naïveté was a little unrealistic.
Once again, Katie McGarry has crafted Perfection. Drix and Elle are from opposite sides of the tracks but meet when he saves her from two harassing boys on a carnival midway. Elle is the governor's daughter and Drix is the poster child for his juvenile delinquent rehabilitation program. Thrown together during her father's run for US senate seat, they find it impossible to stay away from each other even though Elle has been ordered by her father to keep away.
As Drix struggles to find his way back into his family, he tries to uncover who he went to jail for. Drix’s was wrongly convicted of a crime he didn't commit. Elle slowly realizes that her parents are controlling every aspect of her life. Unable to stay from one another, Elle and Drix's not only help each other but fall in love.
I really hope the author continues the characters from this series because I would love to see more of Drix’s extended family.

I wanted to like this book. By the cover and synopsis alone, I went in with pretty good expectations and came out of it so horribly bored.
My first issue: Elle wants to take coding classes. That's great! I just hated the way the author tossed that in there to make her appear nerdy/smart/whatever and then....nothing. It doesn't go anywhere. It annoys me more than it should that it was a big deal to her and then it just pretty much gets forgotten about. She could've mentioned to her parents that the classes can help her with her father's campaign, or his program, or anything else he's got going on politically. It bothers me waaaay more than it shouldn't that she didn't try.
I was a bit bothered by how much Elle seemed to worship her father. Every time she called him a hero or told Drix he's "saving the world" I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Maybe I'd feel the same way if he wasn't such an asshole. He's given me no reason to agree with Elle's opinion or even to see it from her perspective. Also I had a great laugh at the fact that she was surprised that people in politics were dirty. Like ??? Girl, everyone knows politicians are dirty. You’re the daughter of a politician, that shouldn’t even be a surprise. You should know how it works.
I think I impulsively cringed every time they made a remark about how mature she was being. Which I guess makes sense in retrospect because she is pretty childish.
She also seemed to have grown a spine as soon as she realized she was 18. It was like a switch was flipped and it put me off. I didn’t even enjoy her telling her parents off. Her parent’s reactions weren’t even believable to me.
Drix was marginally at better character. But at 17, it seemed like he lived a nonstop rock star lifestyle. I don’t know when he had time to sleep to be honest. It was beyond the realm of believability for me for him to have done everything he claimed to and only be 17/18 years old. It would’ve made more sense if Elle and Drix were college aged.
That's it really.
I got spoiled about and my first reaction was “Why am I not surprised?”
The pacing is terrible, I was bored throughout most of it, and I just honestly didn’t care about how it ended.
Nice cover though. It’s got that going for it.

what happens to the dogSpoiler
Seriously though, you put that dog through so much trauma and then have the nerve to kill it off? Really? That’s a bit much for a YA contemporary romance novel, man. Not to mention that it served absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Now that I think about it, you could've had Drix get shot (not killed obviously) and achieve more of a purpose storytelling-wise.The pacing is terrible, I was bored throughout most of it, and I just honestly didn’t care about how it ended.
Nice cover though. It’s got that going for it.
I was really looking forward to this book. Yet, I was let still waiting. To be honest, this could have worked if I had been emotionally invested in the characters. This book read as it was written for the targeted audience of the young adults. It did not in my case translate very well to the older adult reading audience. The characters came off as childish and uninteresting. Plus, when things did happen there did not seem to have much action.
This really saddened me as I wanted to like this book a lot. Underneath all of this, I did see a small sliver of potential. Just in my case, this book did not work for me. However, this does not mean that this book won't be enjoyed by someone else in the targeted audience.

More of a 3.5/5.
Pretty good, audio book was ok, but I think it definitely helped me get through the story faster. I loved the characters and the different family dynamics and also the growth. I wish second chance programs were more readily available in real life. It was cool to read a story set in Kentucky, but there werent many things that made it feel like Kentucky. Only reason I rounded up to 4 stars was for the story and growth and hope that things like this can really happen and that it brought awareness to how the justice system fails those who cannot afford good representation.

Anyone else got Wildest Dreams stuck in their head?
This was really good. I don't know what it was about it, but I connected with it more than I've connected with any other book lately. It was fascinating how different the lives of Drix and Elle were, and yet they had such similar problems.
