Found an old copy of this with the delightful and slightly quirky illustrations by John Burningham and decided to give it a quick read. It was only a little like what I remember of the old movie, but it was a fun story and would make a nice read aloud for those who don't mind guns and gangsters. It even has a yummy recipe tie-in included in the back. I also learned a few things about England and a few new vocabulary words. Transmogrifications, anyone?

I've never seen the movie or heard much about the book, but this was a fairly cute, engaging book for younger chapter book readers. It did not hurt, in any fashion whatsoever, that it was narrated by David Tennant. I think this could be appreciated by the same readers who enjoyed Charlie and his adventures in the Chocolate Factory.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book because I have loved this story for most of my life through the film.

It is refreshing to see that they both created a very similar world even if the details were altered.

The patriarch is an odd man, the children are excitable, and the mother is barely developed. The adventure that Chitty takes them on is both simple and thrilling as told from the children's pov.

Sweet fun. Better than Disney but their toot sweets are better.

I loved this book growing up and I am glad to say that reading it as an adult I love it still. Such a feel good story with interesting plots. Excellent book.

A mildly interesting children's adventure story made much more exciting by having it read by David Tenant.

This is very different from the movie (one of my very favorite favorites) but super cute and exciting and silly on just the right note, while also being a master class on how to write out-of-this-world-wonderful run-on sentences. What a shame Ian Fleming died before he could write more.
