I really couldn't get into this novel. The main problem for me was that there was no apparent conflict for the main character--she marries an Officer in the military and travels with him to his post, and then.... nothing. There was no other inciting incident, no other plot lines for me to get excited about before I gave up reading it. And maybe it does get better later and this book just isn't for me, but I couldn't really force myself to try much longer than I did.

I receieved an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

A great story about the Crimean war. I appreciated that the author didn't shy away from showing the horror and pointlessness of the war. It was interesting, full of action and the dual stories were told with delicacy and care. A great book that I totally recommend.
