Did you know that moms could be abusive because I sure didn’t know that moms can be abusive because why would moms be abusive to kids but especially why would moms be abusive to their kids????
Fine story the writing isn’t that compelling but rather the content. Like it’s essentially a diary turned novel about a terrible childhood. So three stars for being brave to tell your story and putting it in a coherent and understandable way but the book is mediocre otherwise.

Very difficult to read at times due to the content. But also an important book to bring to light the horrors that some children face. The fact that Mr. Pelzer has grown up to be a loving father and move beyond this trauma is nothing short of miraculous!

I had never heard of David Pelzer's story until my older sister asked me if she could read this book to me. She got about halfway through, and then I read the rest for myself. I'm not really sure how I can rate a book like this, as I don't read them that often, but I'll do my best.
I was thoroughly horrified at the miseries this little boy went through. I didn't expect half of it, and what's really scary is that a human mind can be so evil and twisted to imagine these torturous actions up. His mother just snapped one day, and it was unbelievable just how much she changed from David's early years to the ones written about in this book. A little boy, a baby really, forced to grow up so quickly and endure so much.
But it had a happy ending: David got out, and I'm so glad for that. Look at his life now and what he's made of it, and all of that was through the Lord.
