A very hip, compelling look at the search for teenage identity. Throw in a love square (or "love pentagon" as Zevin said) and you've got a great book.

AD/PR. I was sent my copy of the book from Tandem Collective UK as part of a Readalong.

I finished the book! It was very interesting to see how Naomi grew as a character with her amnesia, and the relationships she has along the way.

Memoirs is split into three sections -"I was", "I am", "I will" - presumably with each section focussing on a different aspect of dealing with the accident.

"I was" focussed on Naomi trying to fit back in with how things were versus how she is now and how her relationships with her friends, family, boyfriend, and eventually deciding to stop trying to do that, and change, which leads directly into "I am".

"I am" starts with the reactions from Naomi's haircut and primarily focussed on how Naomi can do new things than what she used to. This section of the book was filled with new experiences with Naomi and has more of James than the last section, with a focus on how both of them interact, ending with a decision that is best for them both.

"I will" is the final section and it's about Naomi mainly thinking about her future and repairing some of the relationships that had got a little bit rocky.

Throughout the book, there's three characters who have some form of romantic relationships with Naomi - Ace (her boyfriend from before the accident), James (the bad boy) and WIll (her oldest friend). To me, none of the romances felt thorough enough to be believable and some of the actions of one character were just really bad things to do.

Another thing that took me by surprise in the book was Naomi's reactions to things and a few one liners that reminded me that this book is set in the mid 00s.

I did enjoy the notalgic 00s vibe that this book gave me and it was a quick, light read. It was also a nice change from the types of books that I usually read.

Thank you so much to Tadem for letting me take part in this readalong and sending me the books.

I've read this for the second time, but I still don't really like it. I can't really pinpoint why..

Very emotional and relatable for me at 17. Layla had a similar personality as me and I loved the book.
