DNF

I got to just over 100 pages and decided to not go on. I'm really bummed I didn't like this because I loved the 'Across the Universe' series a lot!
This was selected as our book club book for this month, and after speaking to the other members I made the decision to skip it. Not my cup of tea I'm afraid to say...

This book was really weird. In some cases, weird isn't always bad, and sometimes the weird even makes the book better. This was not that case. Maybe it was because I couldn't relate to Bo even in the slightest, but I found his obsession with having powers weird. He says at one point that it doesn't matter if he doesn't have powers, but then why is he so fixated on having them? The book was very hard to follow and very frustrating to read. I also felt like Bo had no character. The idea was really cool and I respect what the author was trying to do, but I just couldn't enjoy this book no matter how hard I tried. I will say though that the Phoebe chapters were quite good and I really related with her.

It's interesting but it drags a lot in the middle.

SPOILERS!!!!!!

I really liked this book, but it was slightly confusing and repetitive and I wanted the problems to be solved. Honestly, I really wanted him to choose Sofía in the end. I really liked his relationship with Pheobe though, and how his father gets slightly redeemed when Pheobe sees him crying. I think sometimes author's should try not to have the "things get better over time" resolution. There is nothing left for Bo except for helping Pheobe and making his own choices, and while I think that's reasonable for him to live, it seemed to me that Bo should have picked death. It's like there are two sides of Bo. We have the good, brotherly side that saves Harold and wants to live, and then we have the Bo with powers who loves Sofía. Sorry for me contradicting myself. Hard to chose between a 3 or 4.
