“If we want things to stay as they are, things will have to change”

A glorious combination of a family in decline story with a Jane Austen romance, all set with the background of one of the most interesting eras in Italian history.

I'd been meaning to read this for the longest time and finally got around to it. It truly is a masterpiece, elegiac in tone, but witty and penetrating and satirical, not mired in nostalgia. Prince Fabrizio is one of the great characters of world literature.

probably a challenging read for every non-italian, but a true classic. this book is so so dear to me.
