This was such a nice and cosy read. I am always a little scared to read hyped books, but this one was right up my ally. Annie is a real cutie. She is loyal and accommodating. She is loved by everyone, which annoys her, because she feels like she can't show her true self. Will seems to be the total opposite of her. He is outgoing and confident, but deep down he has issues and insecurities. Both complement each other so well. Will encourages Annie to become more of herself and Annie makes Will see how a world with trust and love can look like.
Those who know my reading habits know that I loooove a good fake dating trope. The fake dating in this book wasn't the best, but it was good. There was so much sexual tension between Annie and Will, but we never got very explicit scenes, which was unexpected.
Annie and Will really got me hooked. I am currently looking where to buy the other books by Sarah Adams. The book was cosy and made me feel good. I even got quite emotional towards the end. I can recommend this book!

"I want to change our original terms too. [--] So I was wondering if you'd be the someone to help me practice taking risks with, doing new things, and...maybe finding out who I am now?"
"Be your all-encompassing practice someone?" I ask, letting my thumb drag against her bottom lip.
"If it's not too much to ask," she says in a quiet whisper.
Who I was and who I am becoming are meeting at an intersection and deciding who should proceed.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series at first but it’s not necessary to read the first one to understand this one. It’s been sitting around my house for ages and I finally grabbed it to be one of my reads for the month and I want to go back in time to ask myself to read the blurb on the back a little closer. I think I had constructed a universe in my head based on the cover art where he was the flowershop owner but that’s not the case here. It’s just a regular bad boy x good girl pairing where he’s a floozy who doesn’t get tied down and she’s the sweet, virginal angel everyone wants to protect.
The only things I truly appreciated were Will reaching out to his brother to heal some of his childhood trauma and Annie finally standing up to her family about infantilizing her when she’s almost 30. In any case, I won’t be returning to Rome, Kentucky and I will be writing off small town romances for the foreseeable future.
