Like certain other people at the time, I bought this and read it religiously. I think I read this more than I watched the film.
Haven't read this in well over a decade, but this was the first published screenplay I owned and became my template for screenplay formatting and conventions while writing shorts over the years. An important one for me - so consider this more of a nostalgic rating than a critical one!
the path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. and i will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. and you will know my name is the Lord when i lay my vengeance upon thee.
The script itself is a tremendous read, witty, full of injokes and details and film knowledge. As a learning tool it is fun but Tarantino writes like a novelist both in form and literally so it's perhaps not a great example of how to write a screenplay. But at least it's not written after the film is locked like so many modern available screenplays are.
Had to read this for a class. Almost gave it two stars, but it's certainly not bad, it's just not for me. Never saw the movie, but I'd be curious to give it a watch maybe. I do tend to like Tarantino movies, but this was just... No. It for me. I did like the ending a lot though. Everything tied together nicely.
This was a fun, quick read. Have loved the movie for years, just wanted to see what scenes were cut out, etc. Good fun!
