Many fascinating profiles in this book, but it moves slowly.

While some of the “wonders” were a bit thin (in service of making a bigger, more general statement)(looking at you, German letter tree), this book was overall an interesting and compelling read. The narrator did a fantastic job (although he pronounced “museum” weird) and it was akin to a long long-form podcast. Interesting characters and interesting stories.

I don’t usually review books. This one sooo captivated me. The title is perfect; the stories will amuse, challenge, delight and inspire. This is truly a must read of real people in Our contemporary times who are trying to keep cherished traditions, arts, and livelihoods alive for our world. Read it, read it, absorb it, be inspired!

While some of the sections feel slow, I really enjoyed the explorations of these niche cultural phenomenons, and all the little pieces of hidden wonder that exist in the world. This book opened my eyes to the importance of passing down information, cultural knowledge, and skills, even when they aren’t glamorous, profitable, or well known. Really fun to learn about the different people and traditions highlighted in this book too!
