A little exoticizing at times, but not distractingly so. A nice read.

Honestly, this book was fantastic and was like discovering treasure that you never knew existed. The -0.5 is actually personal preference because, while the narrator did a wonderful job, I feel like this is the kind of book I need to be able to annotate and look at the references section in the back. Hearing the names of different books mentioned sent me scrambling to write them down and then I would miss the next part and have to rewind 😅 but that’s more of a skill issue than anything lol. My favorite part was the bees! If I ever actualize my dream of beekeeping, you bet I’ll be telling my bees everything!
Minor: Animal death, Cancer, Chronic illness, Death, Genocide, Misogyny, Racism, Sexism, Slavery, Terminal illness, Violence, Police brutality, Medical content, Grief, Religious bigotry, Car accident, Death of parent, Abandonment, Colonisation, War, Classism, Pandemic/Epidemic
A note on warnings: so there are a lot of warnings and that’s because this book covers A LOT of history, which, unfortunately, involves a lot of bad events. Additional warnings would be discussions of fascism, life under a fascist regime, mentions of starving/food insecurity
