I guessed the plot twist in the first quarter of the book, but then I reminded myself this is a book for young adult readers. It was really annoying for me, as a social worker, to have the protagonist and the authors note at the end embellish the fact that the victims were daughters, mothers, sisters, etc because I think their personhood isn’t contingent upon relation to others but that’s a me problem. I can appreciate a female protagonist who is tough and feminine but the author doesn’t seem to understand the show don’t tell concept. Audrey Rose said it several times throughout the book. Took me a long time to get through because it moved slowly and got boring but I could understand why people liked it. Just not for me and I don’t think I’ll read more of the series.

I decided to reread this (since the last time I read it was 2017-2018? And I just got the last two books.
I went through and annotated and it gave me a fresh view on the book. I think I cried when I found out who the killer was before, but this time around  I'd gone through all the clues and knew who it was by the end.
It being a historical fiction adds to the definition of the main character being a women, she's often looked down upon but she almost never allows it to get in her way.

And I have to say, I think I also fell for the love interest by the end. (though, maybe not book boyfriend worthy; Yet!)

It took me around 4 days to finish the book (while I read all of Acotar in a span of a week) so I'd say it is a slower read to really grasp every ounce of information.

I also loved that she adds information at the end of the book so you really capture what information she used to inspire her and be accurate.

Stay tuned for Hunting Prince Dracula, as Ill be rereading and annotating that one as well.

Despite how tricky the premise is, it is much more respectful than you think it would be. The romance is a bit trite, but it does become quite sweet over time.

It took me a while to get into this book but I couldn’t put it down! The descriptions & some pictures are so creepy but I really enjoyed the writing. The ending definitely made up for the slow start!

Interesting adaptation about one of the most famous Serial Killers of all time with a strong female protagonist. What I liked most were the autopsies. I also liked the dialogues full of banter between Audrey Rose and Thomas. At times the story was a bit slow, but it still made me guess along with the protagonists. Unfortunately it was quite obvious who Jack the Ripper was very early on. All in all it was an interesting story and I’m looking forward to read the next book in the series.
