Very fast, engaging read. I had to stop it for a while because I didnt want the detective to capture the criminal, as I was rooting for both sides.

I found Ishigami's devotion almost bordering on sweet, (also insane) and yet the last few pages put a bitter feeling in my mouth. Yaskuo wavers between having a wonderful life with Kudo, then immediately changing her mind after her daughter's attempted suicide. I wish we got more insight into her thoughts as I felt like Ishigami's entire life is now a waste.

Traditional mystery-murder-detective novel. Only the story build up is not so traditional. The writer will show the scene of murder at the very beginning but not holding the camera in a dark alley or from the back of the murderer where you can't see the face of the perpetrator. Rather you will know the murderer firsthand and there starts the difficult task for the writer to hold your attention. Keigo Higashino did his part quite handsomely there.
In fact the writer blesses the reader with the power of God's eye view. From a suitable vantage point you watch how the detectives are brewing their assumptions and how they are thwarted at few places even though their assumptions are right. As you keep on reading, you'll come to know the thinking processes of the genius minds and we all know genius fictional characters never bore us. However, don't give up yet and start thinking that you already know whether the cat in the box is dead or alive. Even God's eye may have a blind spot, don't you think?
Apart from that I loved the melodious character names of the book. let me put it:- Yasuko hanaoka, ishigami, kusanagi, yukawa, misato, kishitani. (Don't know why but I could not but fall in love with the names).

WOW ! Truly engaging murder mystery! Interesting take where you kinda know what happen from the get-go but youre just excited to see if the detectives will figure it out! Still had SOO MANY PLOT TWISTS!!!! Im also super happy the translator kept the dialogue very similar to a literal translation of a Japanse! It might throw some people off but thats literally how they speak! SO I really appreciated that! :D

ALSO love to be in the head of geniuses and advanced math teacher!! :D

Highly recommened if youre down for an original/Japanese vibe murder mystery!! :)
