When I picked up this one, I wasn't expecting getting emotional and teary-eyed... And yet here we are. Only existencial horror to be found here, fellas.
I'm glad I finally finished one more classic read, yay~!

I didn't think that I was going to enjoy this book, but after Frankensteins "Monster" began the story from his perspective, I just could not put the book down.

“There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand.”

“My spirits were elevated by the enchanting appearance of nature; the past was blotted from my memory, the present was tranquil, and the future gilded by bright rays of hope and anticipations of joy.”

“Remember, that I am thy creature; I ought to be thy Adam; but I am rather a fallen angel, whom thou drivest from joy for no misdeed. Everywhere I see bliss, from which I alone am irrevocably excluded. I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend. Make me happy, and I shall be virtuous.”

“The cup of life was poisoned forever, and although the sun shone upon me, as upon the happy and gay of heart, I saw around me nothing but a dense and frightful darkness, penetrated by no light but the glimmer of two eyes that glared upon me.”

The book includes the two "ghost" stories written at the same castle holiday, by Lord Byron and Dr. John  Polidori. Both are vampiric in nature, with Byron's story actually influencing Polidori's story, which is more explicitly about vampires. So a surprising spooky two for one deal here, with the original Frankenstein story and some early vampires.

This book was absolutely stunning. It tore my heart completely in two and was completely brilliant in how it made you feel both for Frankenstein and the monster he created. The writing was so stunning I couldn’t keep myself from underlining all of the time. The only thing I could see people disliking is the way the story builds and the lack of any particular gruesome moments that some may come to associate with this story because of the ideas around it. I would say if you want something genuinely scary this is not it, but if you want something that will disturb you purely because of how nuanced it is, this is the one.
