4.5/5 - There was a lot of good and insightful quotes and paragraphs in this story but simultaneously kinda dragging in some parts of the story. I see why it is such a loved classic and I could maybe see myself coming back to it.
Its so ironic that Frankenstein’s Monster’s biggest plight throughout the book is being misunderstood and feared, while IRL people misunderstand him by thinking his name is Frankenstein and don’t realize how intelligent/well-spoken he is and believe him to be a simple-minded monster instead of a complicated being capable of empathy and craving love.
Shelley uses a monster to reflect the flaws of men, and I think it’s very fitting that Dr. Frankenstein doesn’t acknowledge nor accept his own role in “his misfortunes” and “misery,” being that some of those flaws are ignorance of one’s own faults and blaming the world around them. The doctor is a dumbass and it was pissing me off that his whole story is all ‘woe is me’ and ‘poor me’ while he’s too blind to see that the issue is HIM and his own actions. The monster is just an extension of the creator and only got to the point of murder due to Frankenstein’s negligence, ignorance, and DOWNRIGHT FUCKIN IDIOCY.
Rlly makes you think about human actions in relation to our upbringing (and/or divine creation if you believe in that kind of thing). Like how much of an influence does the environment/circumstances of our creation have on who we become as people?

Mary Shelley treated me to decadent language and larger than life themes as I reflected on the tragic story of Frankenstein, and the misery he caused.

Pretty good, i really liked the gothic aesthetic and it kinda reminded me of Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde. However, I'd love to see more of Victor while creating the Creature, as it lasted for like... 2 pages???
