I'm not sure if the added strength of Linda being a main character, or if it is more that there was freshness in the idea, but this was terrific. I really enjoyed how a nugget of a story became a full fledged crime novel. the pace was fantastic too. Crafty character development was the key though.

I like Hening Mankells way of writing but I think that the old books about Wallander is better

I picked this up 18 months ago when I started the Steig Larsson books. I'm glad I finally read it. I got sucked into it on vacation and couldn't put it down! Great mystery. A little slow to start and definitely dark.

I found Linda to be annoying sometimes and overly dramatic. Some things seemed kind of forced and others drawn out. I really love the Kurt Wallander books. I think Mr. Mankell needs to work on Linda's character.

This started out amazing, and I was totally hooked for about the first 3rd of it. Then it slowed down and started going in circles, and you could see where the story was headed, but it refused to just get to that point! It was consumed via audio and the reader was excellent though.

Well, I turned the pages easily enough, but I felt there was a lot that simply didn't ring true in this story. Linda, Wallander's daughter, is about to become a police officer - she's completed her training, but she's not part of the force yet. When she becomes entangled in her friend's disappearance, and later, in the fall-out from an extreme religious movement, she seems to become part of the investigation with no trouble at all. Really? And with her father working from the same department? And those re-established friendships withe her school friends. Nah, I don't think so. Linda herself is a pretty unpleasant, self-centred piece of goods. The plot itself is quite complex, but quite involving too, so I was happy enough to read through to the end. But I won't be picking up another book with Linda Wallander centre-stage.
