It’s been a while since a book has made me cry, but this one just got to me at the end. Especially after reading Hannah’s postscript, this book’s meaning took on an added heaviness. It wasn’t necessarily the best written book, but it was impressive that she wrote such an in-depth look at two characters throughout so many decades. Unfortunately with that breadth, there was a bit of depth lacking. I wished that there was more time spent in certain eras of Kate and Tully’s lives, but otherwise I enjoyed learning and growing with them. I’m excited to watch the Netflix show, now, and compare the two!

Kristin Hannah always has a way to make me feel everything the characters feel. I definitely could’ve connected with the story a bit more, but it kept me interested and I was honestly expecting that more tragedy would’ve happened, and then it ended up just being kinda depressing instead of shocking. Maybe I read too many thrillers, I don’t know. Very very good writing. Many quotes that I lingered on. I felt the anger from the characters when fights were occurring, felt the sadness they felt when something bad happened.
This was a raw story of friendship and relationships and the importance of building a family (blood or not).

Kristin Hannah never fails to rip my soul out!! I didn’t really love it until the last 25-50% of the book, and I really hated Tully. I thought she was a trash friend from the start and I don’t really understand their friendship and love for each other

There’s a deep humanness that comes alive in Kristin Hannah’s novels. Something intangibly deep comes alive through her words and she has a way of sharing in a way that feels so deeply connected and meaningful. I can never put her books down; they suck me in and spit me out sobbing, better for having read them. This book was no exception. I LOVED that she defied my expectations in small but profound ways throughout the book. I don’t feel the need to say anything specific about the book or the characters; I just want to say that I’m thankful for the love and anger and forgiveness they exhibit throughout.

Great beginning, slow around the middle, and a twist I didn't see coming towards the end. Better than I expected.

The beginning and end were great, the middle could have been about 200 pages less.
