Kept waiting for something to happen. Anything. But it never does.
Also, the author's handling of the languages was so inconsistent it was actually distracting.

Very interesting story about two Gypsy women, who are just trying to survive after the War. Rose Daniel is in search of her brother who went missing during the war, while fighting along with the Gypsies. He had a wife and baby one the way. Lola has seen the horror that comes with war, when her whole family was massacred in front of her. The only thing that kept her alive was a baby. The story of these two women intertwining was well written. Rose Daniel was also based on a true person, who lived amongst the Gypsy's and became a herbalist after leaving England. Very good read. Another side to the war that I never knew about.
An exceptional novel. As a Flamenco dancer, this is the second work of fiction I've read that has a large Flamenco component, and I loved it. Truly, this is a story that anyone would enjoy.
Good read! The Snow Gypsy was a nice historical fiction book with a little romance. It was captivating and descriptive in the beginning. I enjoyed learning more about the Spanish and the gypsy culture, the European history, as well as the descriptive countryside. I also loved reading about Rose as a veterinarian, and some of the natural healing remedies for the animals.
The Snow Gypsy had strong female characters, great friendships and likable characters. Two women's stories weaving together. I wanted to keep reading to find more about Rose and Lola's history. For much of the book, I felt Rose's emotions, especially her hope and desire for Nieve, Lola's adopted daughter, to be her long lost niece. The ending of the story was good, but seemed kind of rushed. Another reviewer felt it read like a young adult book, and while most of the book read really nice and poetic (I loved the writing as a whole), the ending did feel that way a little. Still, the book had a happy, good conclusion overall and I would read another book by this author.

This book was good until Zoltan was a secret Nazi. I can’t forgive the casual anti-semitism of a Jewish woman having an affair (and eventually a child!) with a Nazi, as unwilling as he said he was.
I only encountered this book through a Kindle promotion -- it isn't a genre that I typically seek out. It gets 3 stars because I didn't struggle to finish it, but I'm also not adding the author's other books to my must-read list.
Rose Daniel is a veterinarian in London after WWII who is haunted by what became of her brother Nathan, who left a decade ago to fight in the Spanish Civil war.
Her search takes her to a gypsy gathering where she meets Lola and her foster daughter Rose; their histories turn out to be deeply entwined. This book follows Rose through her attempts to obtain the information that will let her move on from the uncertainty of her brother's fate. Meanwhile, her and Lola's friendship deepens, and they are trying to figure out how to life as independent women in post-WWII Europe.

It is probably better than a two but the emotions fell flat for me.
So we've got Lola, the flamenco-dancing gypsy who is not like other girls because she doesn't want to get married, and Rose, the English veterinarian who is not like other girls because she's happy to live in a tent and learn from gypsies, and basically the two meet and become best friends. Eh, fine. Since that isn't really enough to sell a story, there were a lot of unexpected (and probably unnecessary) twists thrown in, just to shake the reader into staying interested.
I would like to read more about the Spanish Civil War, though, when I feel like being super depressed about people.

I actually became quite involved and enjoyed the narrative of this book quite a bit. I was reading it nightly and stopped only because my routine changed and I finally had a chance to finish it. Not a great book but a relaxing read.
