well written page turner i quite enjoyed it. you have to read knowing it was written in the 1930’s - loved the varied vocab and had to look a couple of things up but i like that. i can accept that for some the blatant misogyny and racism prevent engagement. Hammett died the year i was born so we’ve come a long way. i can appreciate bc v me this iconic work of fiction that invented the genre enjoyed by so many.

Honestly hell yeah. Love to be reminded of this era of writing where you could write a detective novel with zero elements of mystery. Love the evil protagonist i wish he died at the end.
