A speedy and fun book, packed with dialogue, an enthralling lead character, and it hasn’t dated at all in 90 years. It’s all about people and their lies rather than technologies or specific happenings. The cast is diverse and the physical descriptions are often very direct imbued with emotion. Overall fun and light and great.

Okay... so it's a quick read, obviously. The dialogue flies off the pages if you're familiar with the old noir language. Finished it on my train ride. It's just silly. And I know it's a swagger noir with a suspicious detective, but it just felt really silly to me. And that's not necessarily bad, it just isn't my thing. Again, the dialogue was great, although goofy at times. Personally, the ending wasn't that satisfying. It fell a little flat.
My first 1,001 book in quite some time (I actually finished this review and it didn’t save so here I am starting from scratch again).
A great book, adapted to film, very interesting and intriguing.
I listed to this one on audiobook as a dramatization versus regular audio and it kept my attention for every minute.
The general premise is that a private detective and his partner are approached by a woman who wants them to follow an unknown man. At every turn they become more suspicious of her true intentions.
Highly recommend this one!

I honestly couldn’t tell you a single thing that happened in this book because it was so not memorable for me. I had the hardest time getting through it. I hear it’s a classic though so maybe I should relisten to it with fresh ears.
