Sam Spade is a 1930s private detective, he is hired by Miss Wonderley under false pretenses but very soon her true intentions are reveled.
She is one of many people searching for the Maltese Falcon, a statue of great value.

This was an almost entertaining read.
Unfortunately it was not for me.

I didn't love this book but I appreciated it for what it is: a genre-defining classic.

Fucking great, that's what I thought of it.

Reading for the 2nd time and this novel which has been called the greatest American mystery remains out of all of the great Hammett books, definitely NOT my favorite. Both Continental Op novels plus the Thin Man are better for me. However, if you consider yourself a mystery buff, this is mandatory reading.
