Whoohoo, first 5 stars of the year! This was such a feel good story of a close knit family who love each other and work together as a team. Very much like the movie. It is exceptionally rare if I get laughing out loud while reading, BUT I did so this time....and got many funny stares...totally worth it.

Minus the occasional bad language, this would be great to read together as a family.

4 1/2 stars. This humorous and poignant non-fiction account of an early 20th century family of twelve children and their larger than life parents was right up my alley. I enjoyed every minute of this.

I have a lot of feelings about this book. First of all I didn’t realize until I had started that this was a memoir. Secondly it was published in 1948. That being said I found the racist comments to be a bit too much. They didn’t age well. The stories of the family were okay but I had a hard time seeing past the racism.

This book is nothing like that silly movie. It's a true story about this amazing family and this crazy father who tried to do the best he could with 12 kids
