It was almost bittersweet starting this story because it was the last of the series and I almost didn’t want the journey to end. But Ms. Aguirre left the reader at such a low point at the end of the last book that I couldn’t wait to find what happens next to Corinne. Because this is book five in a five part series I do not recommend starting here. There are many characters and plot lines that come up in this story that would be hard for the reader to enjoy if they didn’t know the full story. I loved how Ms. Aguirre revisited and pulled in to the story all the main characters that had been introduced throughout the series and gave me some closure on their stories. And just as in the last book, Devil’s Punch, I spent some time tearing up at the last few chapters. Amazing series, fun characters, I’m pretty sad to see it go!

Agave Kiss was a nice end to the Corine Solomon series. Agave Kiss starts right where we left off in book #4, shortly after rescuing Shannon, and losing Chance in Sheol. Corine is determined to get him back, especially since they finally realized they are meant to be together. For anyone else, death in Hell would not be the kind of thing you could get around, but these two aren't anyone. With all of her friends needing her assistance in some way, Corine is running on a tight schedule to save the man she loves.

I'm always so sad when a series ends. Corine has had many ups and downs throughout her life and AGAVE KISS rounds everything up and throws everything out there.

The events of AGAVE KISS start up immediately after DEVIL'S PUNCH. Events move at a pretty nice pace from start to finish without any downtime for the characters. Corine's newest situation was apparent to me from the beginning but I still enjoyed her ups and downs until she realized what was going on. I loved that we finally get to KNOW Brooks. He has been in the background for a while now and it was great to have him front and center. We had all our favorite characters in the final installment. Everyone comes together to help Corine and everyone who makes it to the end is closer because of it. I don't always agree with things that have happened in the series but in the end I didn't have a huge issue with any of it.

She lost, she gained, she cried, she laughed, she conquered. I was happy with how everything ended. Everything was tied up nicely and Aguirre ended the series on a nice note.

This was a disappointment. It’s the last in a series, so it had to go out with a bang I guess, but it felt more like being at a party that’s supposed to be Epic where everyone else gets a little too drunk, there’s an excess of drama and a couple of fistfights, and someone’s mom is tidying up while lecturing the whole time.

After the everyone-is-horny-for-Corine vibe earlier in the series, suddenly there’s a lot of “well actually” they’re just friends and she’s so totally devoted to Chance blah blah blah. I swear, I started feeling concerned for the author. Was she being blackmailed to write the story this way? Was she just so invested in her outline that she refused to let the story and characters evolve? It makes little sense to me. If you have to say repeatedly that there are no romantic feelings, that the obsession is love, it just comes across as denial either by the character or the author.

It was a bit boring and repetitive, but the writing is mostly good. It did need another couple of editing rounds to address the awkward overexplaining. This lost a star for me because of that.

This book is nine years old, now, which is apparently a very long time when you’ve lived through the past seven years or so. It feels like two dozen. Elements of this, particularly the relationship dynamics, are clearly rooted in the beforetimes.

I won a copy of this book via a FirstReads giveaway.

This is the sixth (and final) book in the Corine Solomon series. I had not read any of the previous books, so it was hard to catch up on the storyline. As the book starts off, Corine "appears" to have lost her true love, Chance, in Sheol while rescuing her kidnapped friend, Shannon. Rescuing Chance is Corine's main focus throughout the rest of the book. Other reviews (from readers of the entire series) were happy with the way the smaller storylines tied together, but I can't adequately judge that with not reading the series from the beginning. The story was entertaining in parts (i.e. a dog who communicates by spelling words out with Scrabble tiles), but was not interesting enough for me to want to go back and read the previous books.

This book was a little all the over the place but I got the ending I wanted, though it still has a bit of weirdness left over from the events of the last book (Ninlil, anyone?). We do get the backstory on Booke and it was certainly not what I was expecting. Kel is also around again and while I know he has his fans, he's always felt like a plot contrivance to me and his role in this last installment only cements that for me. All in all, this a good series, not great but solid.

I can almost hear Corine singing, "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades." :)
