Uhhhh did I accidentally read a secret, better version of this book than everyone else? Because based on the lukewarm reviews, I was fully prepared for a ride through “meh”-ville, but instead I inhaled this thing in a single sitting. People said it was slow? No. It was marinating. It was slow like a predator stalking its prey. The world-building? Intriguing, if not a bit overly familiar. The characters? Mysterious, moody, occasionally undercooked, but in a way that worked because the whole vibe screamed, “You know nothing, Jon Snow.”

Sure, some stuff was glossed over, but it felt intentional, like the book was whispering: “GURL you are NOT ready for the full truth yet.” And that ending? That ending slapped so hard I had to sit in silence like I’d just re-read Onyx Storm.

If this is just the appetizer and book 2 is supposedly the main course, someone please hook it to an IV and inject it directly into my bloodstream. K, thanks. 🫠🫠🫠

Took a while to get into. Slow beginning.

*** PLEASE AUTHORS/EDITORS WILL YOU MAKE SURE THE MAPS IN EBOOKS ARE ACTUALLY LEGIBLE? can’t even read it zoomed in on an iPad. It’s very frustrating as a visual person ***

I finished this book last night and woke up forgetting the entire thing if that tells you anything. I had to reread the ending to jostle my memory. Unfortunately, this isn’t that uncommon of an occurrence. But with all the hype this book is getting I expected more. It seems the same as all the other books. They all blend together at this point.

The romance … what romance? This isn’t enemies to lovers. It’s fake dislike to sudden change of mind insta love, which I hate. The spice was very mild and mediocre. Hoping for more in the next book. I didn’t hate this book. I didn’t love this book. It’s a good junk book to get your mind off of things.

Will I be reading the next book? Definitely.

Would I recommend this to a friend? Probably not unless they read a ton and want an extra trash TV book.
