I will start with a disclaimer that I’m not a step sibling romance fan, however knowing they became step siblings in their teenage years after being besties for years was the reason I was willing to read this story.

I feel like you see a lot of affection between Jackson & Arden as they grow up & even when they’re no longer close they still hold the other close to their hearts which is sweet. But why is Hawk attracted to her beyond her looks? It feels like he thought she was hot and that’s all. Like Hawk & Jackson have a beautiful (platonic) bond but it seems like Hawk should be with Jackson not Arden with how he talks about them both.

I absolutely HATE that you don’t see anything about Hawk’s siblings until the very end & even then it feels like it was an afterthought. I’d rather see that character building vs the repetitive scenes of Hawk & Arden sleeping together. Along the same lines of that I wish the relationships between Arden & Jackson’s parents got acknowledged a bit more. The book kinda just felt like conflict 3…2..1.. okay we didn’t do anything to address it but we’re back to normal now!! I think seeing a scene where the parents sit down and talk with their children (and Hawk) would’ve felt more beneficial…

I am actually not someone who loathes 3rd act break ups & I actually find they can be very well written in most cases… that’s not what this is. I’m honestly pissed Arden forgave him. He ghosted you after completely dismissing your feelings & you’re willing to give him benefit of the doubt when he refused to listen to anyone?! I hate the savior complex 3rd act breakup. I seriously cannot stress how immature it was to have this grown ass man in his feels so no one else‘a feelings matter. I truly grew to hate Jackson over this & I’m sorry but if I wanted to be disappointed in a man being disrespectful to his girlfriend I wouldn’t be looking for it in a book.

Y'all already know that CL Rose is my #1 Author. If you didn't, you do now! She has taken me on so many journeys with her characters and it will never get old. She has a way with her words that just captures you from the first sentence. Her characters are so well written its like you're hearing it directly from them.

I am one of those that if it's not playing like a movie in my head then I'm going to struggle with it. Never has that happened with CL. And I couldn't love her enough for it! Okay imma stop waxing poetic about her. Let's Talk about this trio we have!

Hawk, Arden and Jackson were the perfect trio! I knew from the beginning that they were going to be DYNAMITE 🧨💥. And boy were they!! We got the best and not so best of these three. But it just goes to show that they were meant to be!

Arden was such an amazing character 😍. I loved her so much! She had been through it and was coming out of the right side of things. Until she had some barriers that proved to be really tough on her. Her mental health was affected by these events and she struggled. Luckily she had the support of her guys to get the help she needed and deserved to have. She took those coping mechanisms and used them when she needed them. Medicine also helped her deal with everyday stressor. Just because your brain doesn't have the right chemicals to cope doesn't mean you are a lesser person. Arden proved that time and time again. She was such a good person who worked hard for where she was in life. She just refused to let those barriers hold her back.

Hawk gave Arden the space to be herself but he was always meant to be her rock. Jackson was the boy that she could never have, but he was always there when she needed it the most. He was the soft to Hawk's hard. (It took everything in me not to make a sex joke right here 🤣.) I appreciated the Anxiety Rep that Candice gave us with Arden and Hawk. It was raw and honest in every way. If you've never felt it, you're a lucky one. When you have, you know the feeling all too well. Hawk and Jackson were always there for Arden when she needed it. Hawk supported her and suggested she see someone to help her cope. That right there is an invaluable person doing the best they can to help someone. I loved that Arden was able to find someone to help her find coping mechanisms and talk through the hard things in life.
Jackson was the soft teddy bear 🧸 of the three of them. Granted he had rock hard abs and toned AF body he was the gentle giant. He knew her so well from growing up with her and felt the pain when he wasn't able to love her like he wanted to be able to. Loving out loud was such a hard thing for all three of them considering they were all pro athletes. But even more so to Arden's Dad and Jackson's mom. They never thought it would go over well, but they hadn't anticipated the better side.

These two men couldn't have been more stunning as people. They both had their struggles but didn't let them take them over. Hawk was the older brother who wanted nothing more than to be able to provide for his family back when his brothers were small. Since he couldn't do that he made sure that he had a way to do it moving forward not just for them but also Arden and Jackson. Thr comfort of being able to take care of your family is like no other. No peace like that can ever be duplicated. My heart felt for this man and the trio he was inluded in.

I always hoped that CL would write a  Why choose but I didn't know that she would do it so profoundly. This book hit me in a way that I never expected it to. I couldn't have loved it more!

Y'all. These three right here gave us a run for our money 💰. Not just because they run the bases 🤣. They gave us so much more than I ever expected. I've read my fair share of why choose and I can't even begin to tell you the newness that came from this book.

We got:

Double 🍆
She 💦
Facetime Dom
Praise 👏
Hard & Soft Dom
Edging
Aftercare

And I know this book wouldn't have been half it was without these aspects. But once again CL knocked it out of the park. Baseball ⚾️ pun intended 🧢 !

Thank you so much to CL Rose for the free copy 🫶🏻. All opinions are my own, honest and voluntary.

This was my first book by C.L. Rose but it definitely won’t be my last. This story is so engaging and kept me hooked from the first page. Our FMC, Arden, is an incredible representative for anxiety, she is also fierce  and I absolutely loved how she knew what she wanted and wouldn’t let anything dissuade her. Hawk is dark, brooding, and dominant while still somehow still being vulnerable and sweet. He is such a dynamic character and loved getting to see all of the different facets of his personality. Jackson is the perfect golden retriever/cinnamon roll boyfriend while still having a filthy mouth. He is also unfailingly loyal and absolutely adores Hawk and Arden (although in very different ways). All 3 of the MC’s are so genuinely themselves and I just loved them together. There is none of the frustrations of making it half way through the book before anyone admits their feelings which was such a nice surprise. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the MC’s and I loved all 3 of them from the very beginning. I can not wait to read whatever she puts out next!

Double Play is the third story in the Daytona Fury series. It follows professional volleyball player, Arden Levine as she moves to Forida to play. She moves in with her childhood best friend (and later step-brother) Jackson Blake and his best friend Hawk Mason. Jacks has always had feelings for Arden, but refused to act on them once his mum married her dad during highschool. Hawk's troubled past has left him emotionally closed off to most people, but Jacks managed to work his way under his skin. Arden's appearance in their lives brings forward feelings he's also tried to suppress, knowing how Jacks feels.

I loved this story! I felt all the feelings from all three of the MCs! I was so invested in their relationships that I was almost in tears at points!

I thought that each of the characters was well-rounded, and that they worked really well together. Hawk could help Arden lose herself in the moment and then Jacks was the comfort that she needed.

Hawk had a really strong backstory, and I appreciated that it wasn't all magically fixed (although I wish we had seen his brother reaching out and not just heard about it in the epilogue).

I loved that Arden was also a professional athlete, and I thought the addition of an anxiety disorder (panic attacks) made her a much deeper character too! I wish we'd seen a little more of her relationship with her dad.

Jacks was also a great guy! I loved the softer edge that he brought to the relationship, and I particularly loved how he was always there for Hawk. He didn't let him push him away during their friendship and was just a top quality friend! I also completely understood why he panicked and his protective instincts were so strong!

I wish there had been a little more about how the sports organisations reacted to their unconventional relationship, but I guess it was a positive that for them it was pretty much a non-issue!

Overall, I really enjoyed this story and I can't wait to see what Candice writes next!!

Wow—what an incredible read!

The story? Absolutely captivating. The love and romance? Utterly divine. And the spice? So hot, it’ll leave you melting.

This entire series has been nothing short of phenomenal, and it definitely ended with a bang. I’m going to be nursing a serious book hangover after this one.
