I had to stop reading this series to my 6yo. The characters were mean to each other including some unchecked bullying and physical harm dressed up as funny. The girls have a bad attitude and make what I'd call bad choices that did not get their due in the end, so no real lessons were learned. I didn't like the language nor the way the sisters got along and treat each other. Not at all what I want to provide as valuable literature for my children. The fossil one was the best of the lot. The dance and "being bad" ones were my least favorite. We didn't get past book 6. Unfortunately, my 6yo loved it and there were lots of tears when I said I wouldn't read it anymore.

Content was appropriate for a child. Pictures were cute, but not overwhelming. Do not have children, but work in a library at the children's desk. Review of 5 stars is to say that it was appropriate for the recommended age of 6-8.

This was a silly, realistic book with great illustrations. My son giggled several times while reading it, but he was not that into it. There is a lot of name calling and pranks, some of which were just mean. We will not be continuing the series.

This book is an almost perfect novel for early readers. I love that Ivy & Bean are two completely different girls with individual personalities. I love the adventure that happens in the comfort of their own neighborhood.

Bean is a little mean hearted with her language and actions... at one point she throws worms in her sister's face and laughs about it. Sometimes she is reprimanded for her behavior but not always. I want to see if Bean's attitude changes in the other books.

Bean is kind of awful, but I thought the story was fun.

"The moment they saw each other, Bean and Ivy knew they wouldn't be friends. But when Bean plays a joke on her sister, Nancy, and has to hide quickly, Ivy comes to the rescue, proving that sometimes the best of friends are people never meant to like each other. Vibrant characters and lots of humor make this a charming and addictive introduction to Ivy and Bean."

This was a cute story and I excited to read it with my students.
