Not for me. I don't enjoy sad books. It was ok. Potentially good for 10-12 year olds, but I felt the resolution happened too fast and too easily for both Clara and her Uncle.

I really enjoyed this. Discusses friendship, community, trauma, and grief in a good way as a middle grade. Def teared up by the end of it.

I loved the intent of this story and thought much of the depiction of childhood trauma was beautifully done. I was also compelled by the mystery aspect of the book and wanted to keep reading to find out all of the community's and family's secrets. There were a few things that took me out of the story for being unbelievable (Would you really go into someone else's house???), but my main issue with the book was the pretty bow tied at the end. Yes, I get that this is middle grade, but healing of traumatic grief is typically not as simple as it was portrayed. With that caveat I loved Papa, the focus on community, the healing process, and the reuniting of families.
