Couldn't be happier with the finale of the series. Would love to see more books in this world, but would be satisfied either way. This series accomplished what few do. Three independently good books and an over arching plot that is well developed, complex, REALISTIC, thought provoking, and not predictable. Just well done.

Brilliant writing. Smart and clever character development. The third and final book wraps up some storylines and leaves others open to interpretation. The characters are drawn strong and clear, enough so that even secondary players have interesting enough stories to merit their own books! Hint hint, Ms Harkness!

Incroyable. Je n'ai jamais mis autant de temps à finir une saga. Je pense que je retardais l'inévitable fin. Que de bonheur. Un coup de coeur.

I am really looking forward to it...

Decent conclusion. Still not amazing, with quite a bit of power balancing issues. Diana has a fickle and unexpected power that is less tied to her growth as a witch than it is to what would make the plot interesting at that moment. She can kill some with an instant fireball to the chest, but Knox needs some wildly complicated spell that drains her, with no real explanation as to why this is the case. It rather pulls the tension out of every fight when you know that Diana will either be inexplicably incapable or inexplicable amazing depending on the author's mood.

The relationships were only ok, and the treatment of ancient horrors and torture similarly only ok, with character reactions either falling flat or failing to lend the appropriate gravity. And no, having Diana throw up any time something foul is afoot does not make me, the reader, have any additional sense of disgust or horror. Powerful writing is what does that, and powerful writing this book does not have.

The narrator Jennifer Ikeda was quite good. Good male and female voices, plus accents, pacing and tone.

I think the broad strokes of the story reveal something that could have been really amazing, but I never felt the excitement, tension, or investment that would have made this a memorable read.
