I was surprised to find myself really enjoying the book. It's been a while since I read the first two, and I just remembered feeling bored. This book wasn't boring at all. I think I will have to go back and start the series again. Although, the ending for this book was wrapped up a bit too neatly.

I finally have determined what has always felt "off" to me about this series.
I don't feel the connection between Diana and Matthew AT ALL. Their love is supposed to be the cornerstone of this series, but it just doesn't come across to me.
But I ADORE the science-y aspect. I love the alchemy and the science and the history and the family trees... That part makes up for the lack of romance, most definitely. If that part was delved in to more I would be handing this book five stars in a heartbeat, but it was mostly sacrificed to lukewarm love scenes and the "undying passion" of two people who just felt like strangers to me.
Bummer. But lovely ending none the less.

Such a great ending to an amazing series. Started this back in 2022 and have read one book a year. That’s saying something considering the length of time in between reads that I remembered everything. I love these characters and their beautiful family. Maybe I’ll reread A Discovery of Witches later this year
