I learnt a lot from this book about Palestinian culture and politics, without it being overbearing or feeling too much like I was being taught - it weaved into the story naturally to provide context, which I really appreciated. The characters were nuanced and well developed, and I liked how the theme of identify was explored through family dynamics, links country and nationality, and relationships. The prose was beautiful - long and flowy! I enjoyed this a lot!

I liked hearing about people's everyday lives in Palestine, but I didn't really connect with the characters or the plot. I probably should have just read a non-fiction about everyday people living in Palestine.

Such a boring book, why it was nominated for an award I don't know. The characters are so unlikeable and self absorbed.
