Not a necessarily bad book (though the writing felt lacking at times) but I’d hoped it would focus more on the development of the careers of the Warrens, as well as the several cases they encountered. The book felt heavily focused on what constituted an “inhuman” entity, the warning signs of it, as well as how to deal with such an entity. A lot of this information was repeated, and, once again, caused a lack of proper focus and detail on their careers and their cases.
Nevertheless, the cases that they did encounter were intriguing to read about. I found myself interested in the case of the Beckfords in particular.

It might be difficult to separate fact from fiction for both believers and skeptics concerning this book. The work of Ed warren has been questioned as hoax many times. This book chronicles some of his remarkable cases and also gives plenty of information about his methodology.
Ed und Lorraine Warren sind euch vielleicht aus den zwei „The Conjuring“ Filmen ein Begriff. Ich bin nicht nur ein Fan von gut gemachten Horror/Poltergeist Filmen, sondern auch von TV Serien wie „Ghost Hunters“ – ich finde Geschichten von Geistern und Dämonen einfach interessant und vor allem unterhaltsam.
Deswegen habe ich mich von „The Demonologists“ auch sehr gut unterhalten gefühlt. Es ist kein richtiges Sachbuch aber auch keine Biografie, es geht einfach um die Arbeit der beiden „Dämonologen“ und um die Geschichten hinter den Gruselgeschichten, z.B. vom „Amityville Horror“. Man lernt die Familie und die Hintergründe kennen, dabei wirkt nichts künstlich aufgebauscht, es werden keine Predigten gehalten und es wird auch nicht versucht, skeptische Leser von irgendwas zu überzeugen.
Ob man die Geschichten ernst nehmen will oder nicht ist und bleibt jedem selbst überlassen. Für mich war „The Demonologists“ einfach eine gruselige Kurzgeschichtensammlung. Für Fans der Filme oder von Horrorgeschichten absolut lesenswert.

De vez em quando eu resolvo dar uma chance para alguma coisa que eu normalmente não leria. Às vezes me surpreendo positivamente, às vezes é como este livro: você espera que seja ruim e é ruim.
Em primeiro lugar, o livro é mal organizado. Trata-se de uma entrevista com os demonologistas Ed e Lorraine Warren (o casal dos filmes "A invocação do mal" - que eu adoro, diga-se de passagem), com alguns comentários do autor acerca dos casos e da metodologia dos Warren. Os casos não são contados em ordem cronológica e os capítulos tampouco correspondem a casos específicos (alguns casos são divididos em dois ou três capítulos), então o que acontece é um fluxo onde alguma coisa em um dos casos leva o texto para outro caso, indo para frente e para trás no tempo, o que achei confuso e desorganizado.
Em segundo lugar, as partes que não são meras transcrições de falas dos Warren são muito mal escritas, num tom apelativo, com um excesso de pontos de exclamação (que nem deveriam existir em texto nenhum sem ser fala direta, na minha humilde opinião).
Por último, há uma repetição de falas e opiniões, principalmente no que diz respeito a pessoas acreditarem ou não em possessão. Ora, ao escrever um livro sobre demonologistas você deve partir do pressuposto de que quem está lendo ou acredita ou está encarando como um texto de ficção (meu caso), mas não que o leitor irá de fato passar a crer em demônios por conta dos casos/"provas" narrados/mostrados pelo livro.
Enfim, os casos são legais e interessantes pra quem gosta de terror, e eu sou apaixonada pelos Warren como personagens, acho que mereciam um livrinho um pouco melhor.

This book was like an infomercial for how awesome Ed and Lorraine Warren are, and how dumb anyone else who dares to mess with anything remotely supernatural are. Lame. Didn't want to waste any more time reading it, so I gave up about a third of the way through.
Very gripping, informative, and respectful to the craft of demonology. You can tell the Warren's take what they do very seriously, adding to the validity that will help sway skeptics. I will absolutely be more careful around the occult even though I identify as a Satanist, I realize this is not something I want to provoke!
3.5 stars. After watching the Conjuring series and Annabelle I became interested in the Warrens. Ed and Lorraine were a couple who try their best to protect people from supernatural ghosts and demons.
This book is an interview and a slight overview of what the Warrens do and they share their story. They go through some of their cases and share advice. I thought it was an interesting read BUT I had some issues with the way the book was put together. It didn't flow as nicely as I would have liked. The writing style wasn't engaging enough for me.

this is the only book that ever spooked me. I don't believe a word of it but its written in a way that does make you rethink your entire beliefs and I found myself actually creeped out .
