This graphic novel was amazing. I loved every second that I was reading it. This books was funny and so relatable but also tackled difficult topics like racism and slavery. It also addressed everyday issues that teenagers face whether that be with friends or family members, 15 year old me felt very seen in this book. The images in this books are visually pleasing and it just makes me feel so good inside to see a Black main character in a graphic novel! Just bravo!

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This was a nice, cute book with a nice mystery, but it didn't really hold my attention. I think maybe Jasmine as a character kept frustrating me a bit, though her growth was really nice to see. I think this book just wasn't for me but it's not a bad book at all!

“Here your father is with all of that fancy electrical equipment and you're a regular spirit-detecting prodigy.”

This was absolutely delightful. I was expecting a ghost story, but GHOST ROAST was so much more than that.

Chelsea Grant just wants to hang out with her new, cool friends and leave the “Ghost Girl” life behind. Her father is a "paranormal removal expert,” and after getting in a smidge of trouble, Chelsea has to spend her summer working for him.

I was getting Mean Girl vibes at the beginning, but her new friends turned out to be okay, and I think Chelsea had great character growth throughout. There was underage drinking and drug use, but eventually Chelsea stopped giving into peer pressure and let her true self shine.

The big client of the summer were the Harringtons, a wealthy white family whose property was once a sugar plantation that thrived on free labor. There were several spirits still residing at Harrington Manor, and the highlight of the book for me was uncovering the family secrets. The story was entertaining, and educational as we learned more about the history of enslaved people in Louisiana.

The art in this graphic novel was gorgeous, with vibrant colors. I especially loved all the small details, from all the facial expressions, to the palette shift for flashbacks, to Chelsea and her mother eating breakfast in their bonnets.

I highly recommend this one for the inner paranormal ghost hunter in you, lovers of historical fiction, or just if you’re looking for an all around fun adventure with a lot of heart.

For fans of ghostbusters, this YA paranormal adventure follows "Ghost Girl" Chelsea and her "paranormal removal expert" Dad as they use their DIY tech to exorcize ghosts but what if ghosts need to be saved instead of exorcised? This was such a beautiful book of gorgeous illustrations and immersive storytelling. I enjoyed everything about this from the New Orleans culture and Black history, to the discussions of racism and slavery, to the absolutely endearing exposition teenage angst and first crushes. This was an absolutely amazing graphic novel and I highly recommend it to everyone.

I LOVED this! My reading year is off to a good start!

5 plus plus.
This graphic novel has a dream team of authors and artists. Together they created an amazing story since the first panel. The first page tells us immediately the quality of this story. Some pages are a bit heavy on text, but they never confuse or take up too much space. The artwork is amazing and well-designed, and I have to congratulate the artist for not shying away from drawing so many people in one shot. Instead of giving us a character in a colored empty background, each panel is a painting in itself with depth, dynamic poses and action, a detailed background, and lots of characters even when they are just in the background. The amount of work makes the novel and story even more powerful.

A sweet YA story of a girl who doesn't want to keep helping her father clean houses... of ghosts, now that she is a high schooler, but because of her bad choices ends up spending her summer working with her dad as a ghost hunter. She has a lot to juggle. Not only her relationship with her divorced parents but also to fit in with her high school friends.

I love that the artist changed her hairstyle a lot. Chelsea is an amazing character. She also inherited her family's powers and she can see and talk to ghosts. She is kind to let her dad have his moments when she is the one who can see them. A big job takes them to a large property that in the past used to be a sugarcane plantation with slaves back in 1862. There are ghosts there that belong to that time and mysteries to be solved. Chelsea will fall for one of the ghosts and their story is great.

I loved reading this story and I hope it becomes a series of Chelsea and her father dealing with more ghosts and their different stories.

Thank you, Netgalley and the publisher for this e-ARC.

Chelsea just wants to fit in and be cool in front of her friends, but her dad makes it hard as a ghost hunter with a viral commercial. While working for her dad over the summer, Chelsea finds out that ghosts are really real and becomes determined to solve the mystery of the ghosts of the Harrington family.

I loved this! The story focuses on family, first Chelsea's relationships with her parents, second the relationship her dad had with his Grandmother Hazel, and then Oliver's family and the mystery of who he is in the Harrington family.

The ghost cat and the ghost horse were also very cute!

Thank you so much Epic Reads, Shawnee Gibbs, Shawnelle Gibbs, and Storygram Tours for sending me a copy for this tour!

First off, this has become a new favorite graphic novel of mine! I absolutely LOVED it! Everything about it! The characters, the story, the illustrations, the coloring! Perfect! 😍 If you like Danny Phantom or Ghostbusters, I think you’ll love Ghost Roast! Our MC Chelsea has the ability to communicate and see ghosts and has a dad who exterminates ghosts as a job. 👻 (Reminds me of  Danny Phantom! I think they would be friends! ☺️🫶)  I love how this book delves into the past and actually talks about slavery and doesn’t brush it off. I feel like a lot of books who have ghosts from the past, completely ignore the PAST! So this was refreshing to see them actually talk about it and not pretend it didn’t happen. Nothing too graphic which is also good so kids can read! I love how throughout the story we come to learn mysteries hidden in the Harrington Manor and come to know the ghosts who inhabit it. I also love how Chelsea is written and actually talks like a teenager and not just how people think teenagers talk! There are just too many wonderful things about this book and I don’t want to spoil it for you! So please if you think you’ll like it based on the synopsis, definitely check it out! 🥰 I need the team behind this book to make more graphic novels! This was such a fabulous read throughout and I’d love more stories from the authors and illustrator! Definitely keep an eye out for this one and add it to your 2024 TBR!
