i truly enjoyed the original trilogy and I will continue this trilogy because I am invested in the characters… but this first book was a slog. I understand that the book was world building and catching us on the last 7 years but DAMN! I have never struggled this hard on one of her books. I’m hoping the second in the sequel will be a little more fast pace. It felt like VE was trying to hit a certain word count for a college seminar assignment. The writing was excellent and that what got me through it but it could have been 150 -200 pages less.
