My favorite childhood book. A great story of adventure and friendship of an age gone by.

What a wonderfully simple tale. Childhood enjoyments, childhood troubles. Best friends, difficult decisions. Just a great tale.

I was reading this book to see if it's something my 7th grade daughter would enjoy. That being said, it was not very interesting to me. The story chronicled a year in the life of a boy and his pet raccoon. There was a lot of nature talk and stories about the boy's adventures in 1819. It was just ok to read.

Loads of charm and sweetness!  A boy's coming of age with his wonderful racoon, Rascal.  A poignant close as Rascal must be free, away from shotguns, and to start his life as an adult racoon.

I read this book in the third grade and remembered it all these years later. I cried like a gd idiot at the end. It’s a really sweet book. Man what a weird kid I was.

This book gets a good rating because it's a homage to a different time and also older books make me weak. I loved that this 11 year old was basically a bad ass and lived alone while his dad worked and left him for weeks.
I also want a friendly raccoon friend.
Probably won't happen as I am not nearly as caring as ole Sterling.
I read this book because my best friend refuses to read books and he mentioned he may have only read one whole book in his whole life.
This is that book..
I immediately bought it and read it. Sometimes books can bring you closer to people and I can tell why he may have liked this story for sure. It's a happy tale and I think a great book for a young kids getting into reading.

As always Thanks for listening to me jibberjab,
Justin
