Such an interesting book! Plays with some interesting philosophical questions surrounding AI, Consciousness, Conservation, Language! Very similar in vibes to Arrival. Did get a little confusing at times but overall very good!
Wow! This book caught me completely by surprise. I didn't really know what to expect but I was completely captured by it. It's an environmental story, it's an AI story, and of course it's a first contact story, but in the ocean instead of space. Really beautiful, often sad, compelling without being cloying. I enjoyed it a lot.
The audiobook narration is also really, really good.
One half-hearted criticism is that early in the book it gave the sense that it might be really, really scary. It didn't deliver on that vibe, but it didn't take away from the book, it just wasn't that scary of a book.
