Love these kind of books that are science fiction and explored like an actual scientific article or piece, where real science is the starting point and the rest is carefully calculated imagination.
Interesting commentary on humanity, communication, our place in nature, and human tendency toward indifference. How do you know if you’re really conscious and alive and human?

I really liked this book! I work with animals and they are my whole life and this was really eye-opening to read and even though it is fictional there is a lot that can be transferred to real life.

This book seemed like it should’ve checked all my boxes but it just felt like it never went anywhere. The content and the world built was relatively interesting, but the octopus presence felt minimal compared to what was promised. The story placed too much emphasis on the exposition and tech details and not enough on character development or plot, leaving the threads woven together by the end without much true payoff. Felt reminiscent of Brave New World and I’m sure I could see this being studied in greater depth in the future, it just was a bit disappointing to me.

One day I’ll find a good octopus book. This was not it.
