The book just seemed to go in a continuous loop of almost getting to the point of something then dashing off to another part. Right to the end it drags you along, never really exciting you as a reader.

One of the best books I have read in quite some time. The overlay of non-human organic sentience in octopuses and AI as a link to explore consciousness brings up many interesting philosophical questions over the course of the novel. These range from ethical dilemmas on how to view and subsequently treat what we view as ‘other’ to why humans grant significance to things that fit a human expectation or mold. I found this quite profound in a way I’m not entirely sure I can put my finger on yet, but will definitely ruminate on.

The pace was slow, and this felt like more of a philosophical read, than a book with a big story to tell.
